Google and Qualcomm announced Tuesday a new version of the Chrome web browser that is optimized for computers using the San Diego company’s Snapdragon processor and running Windows.

The development means that Qualcomm chips can be used in place of legacy Intel or AMD processors on the most powerful Windows laptops.
“The new version of Google Chrome will help cement Snapdragon X Elite‘s role as the premier platform for Windows PCs starting in mid-2024,” said Qualcomm President Cristiano Amon.

“The PC industry is on the cusp of an inflection point, and as we enter the era of the AI PC, we can’t wait to see Chrome shine by taking advantage of the powerful Snapdragon X Elite system,” Amon said.

Chrome for Windows on Snapdragon is downloadable now for anyone with an existing Windows on Snapdragon device.
“Our close collaboration with Qualcomm Technologies will help ensure that Chrome users get the best possible experience while browsing the Web,” said said Hiroshi Lockheimer, a Google senior vice president,

The two companies have been partners on Android phones since the very first device in 2008. Snapdragon chipsets also power many wearables with Google software, and the two companies reaffirmed their collaboration for upcoming XR devices in January.
